Though all client+server nodes have the same features, some are likely to be more powerful than others. A superpeer has the same abilities as other nodes, but more of them. A superpeer is likely to be a hotspot by virtue of its superior capabilities, but is not guaranteed that status.

The Clip2 Reflector is an example. The Reflector is a Gnutella servent that can handle many more connections than a normal servent (which is usually limited to about six connections) and can cache file listings for its neighbors.
